Year 12 student, Ben Sugarman, recently competed in the British Drug Free Powerlifting Championships.
His performance gained him first place in his age and weight category and fifth place, out of 18 competitors, in the 75kg class.
Ben was also awarded the Ian Finch Memorial Award in honour of Ian Finch, a legendary powerlifter who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. The award was made to the most outstanding lifter overall (youth and adults) including Ben’s father, who is also a lifter.
This success follows his impressive performance in the Powerlifting Commonwealth Games in December 2015 with four medals and a wealth of great experiences. At that competition Ben broke all his personal best records as well as the British Junior record for total lifts. This was even more impressive as he competed in an age group with young people three years older than him.
