Business is a dynamic and broad subject, providing real-world applications to enable students to access and interpret the world around them. The course aims to provide assessments that enables students to know and understand business concepts, then apply them in various contexts ranging from different scopes and scales. They will learn about how businesses make decisions and solve problems using data and information.
The course covers the full range of business topics to introduce students to all business functions. These are split into two “Themes”: Investigating small businesses and Building a business.
Key Stage 5
Business A Level
Students are introduced to business in Themes 1 and 2 through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work.
Students are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical, and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behavior can be studied from a range of perspectives, and to challenge assumptions.
Business BTEC (Equivalent to one A Level)
Business BTEC National Extended certificate (Single BTEC equivalent to one A Level) is a varied and unique course. The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with schools to ensure that it supports progression to higher education.
The course is composed of three units: Exploring Business, Developing a Marketing Campaign, and Personal and Business Finance.
BTEC provides the same weighting for UCAS (university applications) as A-Levels. The vast majority of universities accept BTECs as a substitute for A Levels.
