Film & Media Studies
Key Stage Five
Film Studies A Level
A passion for film, an open mind, and the ability to express your ideas clearly on the page (you need to enjoy writing analysis / arguments about films). No practical experience is necessary – you will be taught all the required technical skills on the course. This includes editing with professional software and using professional camera equipment and lighting.

The course comprises three components: Varieties of Film and Filmmaking, Global Filmmaking Perspectives, and Production. These will involve film analysis, critical readings, practical production tasks (and yes, of course, watching films!).

BTEC Media Studies
You will learn how to use professional filmmaking equipment such as cameras, tripods and microphones. You will also be given access to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products – including Photoshop and Premiere Pro. There are regular practical workshops in which you will develop your media production skills in a range of settings.

The course comprises four units:
1) An exam unit in which you analyse and discuss film, TV, games, magazine, and advertising media.
2) A Portfolio in which you plan the creation of a short film (e.g. scriptwriting, storyboarding, location scouting, casting).
3) Short film production (around 5 minutes) in which you shoot and edit your own short film.
4) A media pitch that asks you to come up with a creative idea for an awareness advertising campaign.
